SAUVIGNON Blanc  2017
This was a stunning year for most of the Loire Valley wines and this Sauvignon is just exquisite!
  • Dry, but not too dry
  • Gentle acidity to match your favourite dishes
  • Nose of Elderflowers
  • Finish of Apricots and peaches

Will get more flowery as time goes by, but in the meantime, don't delay, it is wonderful just the way it is!!!

Just delightful for gentle Summertime sipping.
Easily matches most fishy dishes as well as white meat, you know... chicken dishes, pork, mildly spicey dishes
I'm sure you know what I mean!

SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS AND VEGANS...
and, of course, Unoaked!!!

WHITE WOLF CHENIN FROM CHINON  2017
Every now and then you taste something which is really off the beaten track, and which, under normal circumstances, you would not even consider, and then… it’s like… WOW!!!!
Where can I find room for that?!!!

This is what happened to me the very first time I tasted a Chenin from Chinon.

Chinon is ostensibly a red appellation. They do rosés too as rosé is made with red grapes... as you know.
But a red appellation rarely does a white wine.

Then I looked it up and found that Chinon started off in the Middle Ages, well before the appellation system was started, as a white appellation.
In fact, the Kings and Queens of France in the Middle Ages drank only white wine as they considered red wine to be for the peasants (more or less).
In the early part of the 20th century they found they could sell red wine more easily than white. So little by little the appellation changed and by the soon it was wholly red.

Now back to the present about this wonderful, dry white:

It’s very dry. Just 2g/l residual sugar.
It is 100% Chenin.
It is not listed within the appellation of Chinon. It is Vin de France. It is however grown right next to the appellation plots of land of the grower.
It is rare and stunning.

The flavours come along bit by bit then Wham!
Starting with dry and delicious, then warm and honey-like at the back of the tongue, then fills the mouth.
The basic flavours of the Chenin grape are honey and pollen and it all comes along to greet you and finishes off with a delicate touch of walnut

Easily pairs with farmhouse cheeses, all fish dishes especially those cooked with a sauce like salmon in a white sauce, also roast chicken!

Remember all our wines are totally UNOAKED!

Suitable for vegetarians and vegans

If you're after something rare and unusual, this crunchy, appley white Chinon is an off-the-wall treat.  Zesty and refreshing.

SAUMUR WHITE  2017

Yesss!!! it’s a really fresh, bone-dry white!
Look no further…

Made with the Chenin blanc grape variety, the first flavours are cool and refreshing and then you get my favourite flavours of Chenin… honey & pollen
BUT it’s bone-dry!

(For those in the know, that is 0g/1L)

It’s really quite an amazing wine and undervalued at that.
It easily matches all fish dishes, scampi, goats cheese and roast chicken.

Actually, it is really nice with easy quaffing tapas too! Greek mezes including taramasalata!
Do you know what I mean? The tapas that are just a clam or two; and some bell peppers in olive oil.
Yumm! So easy!

A stunning barbecue wine… dry perfection of white wine in a glass!!!

All our wines are totally UNOAKED

Sancerre Blanc  2015
Image Unavailable
I could go into rhapsodies and eulogies about this wine...
Sancerre as we all know is just the king of all Sauvignon Blancs, coupled with an outstanding year as was 2015 makes this wine just exquisite!

When I was many years younger and working as a secretary in Paris, Sancerre, which wasn't very well known at the time, opened a small shop on the Boulevard Saint Germain on the left bank in Paris so that people would get to know their wines better.
Needless to say, they sold their wine by the glass along with sandwiches made of the local goats cheese or country ham if you wanted it.
It became quite an "in" place to go at the time as the wine was so gorgeous and young and fresh and exciting!
The shop lasted about 2 years then closed. I suppose they'd got enough publicity from this project, so that was the end.

Suddenly, when I tasted the 2015 vintage, it all came back to me!
I remembered the taste of that Sancerre, the flavour of their goats cheese and the chewiness of their ham.

I am sure when you taste this wine you will have the same sort of feelings about it as I did all those years ago in Paris.

It's delightful with goats cheese, ham salads, roast chicken, in fact most white meats.
It's really just scrumptious!!!

Olly Smith's favourite wine from my stand at The 3 Wine Men Cardiff 2016:

Domaine La Gemière Sancerre White 2015

Great vintage.  Beautiful intensity, balance of citrus and peachy fruit.  Tough to find an absolutely amazing Sancerre to blow your mind for this price, but that absolutely does the job and then some.  Hats off Amanda!

VOUVRAY DRY  2016
As you open the bottle your nose is thrilled by the aromatic flavours of this tiny 2016 vintage. It is off-dry so on the back of the tongue you have the subtle flavours of honey and a hint of minerality coming through, which gives it the Vouvray typicity. The soil is clay & limestone.

As the wine airs itself in the open bottle, it takes on a rounder flavour, still keeping its freshness as if just opened.
Swirling the wine around the glass, sniffing it, you have a slightly stronger honey-ness on the nose.

This wine will match up with so many foods, but especially crudities, cuisined fish dishes, butter chicken, light cheeses especially goats cheese, all white meat and most slightly spicey dishes.
It is an easy, affordable wine which is wonderful for dinner parties!

It is also a treat for an easy, staying-at-home evening just chilling out!
Serve at 10-11°c.

The wine is lovely now and as it ages it will take on flavours of acacia honey and quince.
It will age easily up to 7 years, depending on your cellar.

All our wines are totally unoaked!

Arbois "La Pieuse"  2011

This stunning Arbois is just coming into it's own. Although it is still young, it is a very easy kind of quaff. It has already started to have that soft feel of honey around the edges. It is little green pears and honey BUT it will always be bone dry.

It is soft on the palate and easy. It matches gourmet fish dishes in a cream/butter wine sauce. Think of sole meunière - that sort of dish is just lovely with this wine... and it will last well!

This grape variety is cousin to the Chenin Blanc grape and the characteristics are very similar. So it will take on the honey and pollen overtones more and more for about 3 or 4 more years. But it will always be bone dry!

Needs to breathe for at least 1/2 an hour before consuming. Open well in advance. Put the cork back and keep in the door of the fridge till you're ready.

At The 3 Wine Men Show 2014 Oz Clarke said that it was a very different wine, with overtones of little green pears and Spanish peppers. Soft and polleny. Taste the "Terroir"

A delightful alternative to Sauvignon Blanc

Vouvray Medium/Dry  2011

As this medium-dry Vouvray ages it will take on soft, round honey and pollen overtones with just a touch of quince and apricot on the back of the tongue.

It is just lovely as the cook's tipple before Sunday lunch. Matches spicey and sweet & sour cooking well.
Treat yourself to a glass with a light pudding such as apple pie, strawberries and cream, trifle and summer pudding!

Vouvray Medium-Dry  2014

Pure butter!

The nose is discreet with quiet perfumes of honey and pollen.

In the mouth this just explodes! It is really lovely... For those of you who just love Vouvray and a little bit fruitier than most of my other wines, this will be just what you are looking for.

For those of you in the know the residual sugar is 26g/1L.

2014 was in fact a superbe vintage. Most of us thought it wouldn't give too much given the cool spring and summer.

But everything was forgiven by the gorgeous Indian Summer we all had!   Pair this wine with lightly spiced dishes. Pork, chicken, and of course fish. Also desserts... Trifle, strawberries and cream, Eton mess... you know what I mean

Vouvray Sweet  2011

The Chenin grape is probably the most versatile in the world. It makes wonderfully light dry wines, astounding medium-dry wines, and the most sumptuous sweet pudding wines!
This Vouvray sweet is very sweet although not in the least "tacky". It leaves your mouth feeling like having just one more sip. Just to make sure...

Open this wine at least an hour in advance so that the wine can breathe well. Fill your mouth with the subtle flavours of honey, pollen, apricots & cream. Feel how the wine launches forth to match the desserts you have made for it. Marvellous with trifle. Wonderful with strawberry mousse and custard creams... and, of course, Christmas pudding!

You can also drink it as a cocktail as a change.
Half used bottles will keep well in the door of the fridge. Just put the stopper back in.

SAUMUR ROSÉ  2017

Of all the rosés that I have tasted recently I must say that this one is the most pleasant in very hot weather.
We have been tasting so many recently, and although I am aware that many people like an off-dry or even medium rosé, I am afraid that is not for me.
Give me bone dry any day…
(for those in the know, that is 0g/1L)

Rosé has become really quite important in France, and I can see that this is about to happen over in the UK also.
It is not just a matter of change in the weather although I must say that very warm weather really lends itself to rosé, but in the summer… and autumn too, the flavours seem to match just about everything you want to cook on a barbecue
… and more

This is young and rosé needs to be young.
Made 100% of the Cabernet Franc grape it is a very easy quaff at any time.
It is perfumed with roses and blackcurrants.
Just delightful!!!

CHINON ROSÉ  2017

This rosé is probably one of the best I have ever had!
(and that's saying something!)

It’s a gentle soul sort of rosé
It is a really beautiful pale salmon pink colour
It is 100% Cabernet Franc.
It is dry.
You can taste the fruit of the vine
It is really just so delightful!!!

I have been looking for some delightful rosés all this year. They are not always very easy to come by. Most of the ones from the south of France are verging on medium and that makes them a bit boring after the first bottle…
(although very flattering to start with)

This Chinon is almost too easy to drink…

It tastes of roses and raspberries but don’t think it will be sweet or even medium… it is definitely dry!!!

Pair it with barbecue grills including spatchcock chicken; tapas! All rosés go well with tapas! Grilled pork chops; and lamb chops for a change too…

If you’re looking for a really good all-rounder rosé, then you cannot really go much wrong with this…. (Unless you are looking for sweet, but you won’t find that on my website.)

Rosé de Touraine  2017
With a blend of 80% Cabernet and 20% Pineau d'Aunis, this rosé is quite perfectly structured. It is a very-easy-to-quaff rosé, even for those who say rosés are not their favourite wine colour!

The colour is not too pale... or too dark. (I hate dark rosés!)
The flavour is dominated by the Cabernet... but... never underestimate the softness of Pineau d'Aunis which comes later on in the back of the mouth. And is just delightful!
It is just a really easy dry Summer rosé for anytime, and with whatever you feel like eating.

Great with all barbeques! Great with tapas! Great with pork chops at any time. Great with easy summer living!

Delicious too for vegetarians and vegans!

SAUMUR CHAMPIGNY LOGES  2015

Every now and then, in the business of tasting wines, you taste something which is mind-blowingly exquisite!!!
This is my latest mind-blower…

At the tasting I was expecting a Saumur Champigny, which just happens to be one of my favourite red wines from this region.
The grower really wanted me to taste his special cuvee “Loges”

I was stunned!
…yes, it is a Saumur Champigny, but with so much more…
The robe… Stunning thick, dark red colour
The nose… indicating a full bodied, red made from really ripe grapes!
The depth of the flavour… a mouthful of raspberries and blackcurrants!
Then the 2nd flavour kicks in of late, ripe plums

The grapes are grown in the tiny area of Champigny, right in the middle of the Saumur appellation from grapes that are over 50 years old.
2015 was a wonderful year, mostly, and this is no exception to the rule that for a stunning red you need a stunning dry year.

Match with a big steak, lovely lamb chops and very strong farmhouse cheeses.

Remember that all my wines are UNOAKED so there is no full oakiness there at all.
And it doesn’t need it either!

St. Nicolas de Bourgueil - Red  2016
This gorgeous wine from the 2016 vintage is so yummy and it'll just get better and better. It is stilll quite young for a Cab Franc so patience is a virtue here.

100% Cabernet Franc. When you first look at the glass of wine you know you are going to love it - Intense...!
The nose is powerful in it's complexity. Fruity!
This wonderful cuvée is chocabloc full of rich red summer fruit. Cherries and raspberries just fill the mouth and refuse to go away!
Of course it will pair beautifully with any lamb dish starting with the Sunday roast leg of lamb, but just imagine it with meze, kleftico, lamb & potato pie, mulligatawny soup, the list is endless.

Saumur Champigny - Tradition  2015
At the foothills of the Chateau of Saumur is this fantastic little appellation.
It is generally considered to be the strongest in flavour of all the reds from the Loire Valley.
If you have visited the area you will, without doubt, have tasted some in a restaurant or with your picnic.
100% Cabernet Franc.

The nose is chocabloc full of late, warm summer fruits - blackberries, blackcurrants and Victoria plums. (Remember the Indian summer we had? Still in the garden in late October!)
The flavour is plummy - rich and plummy!
The structure is without doubt superb! Not too tannic, not too flimsy.
Whether you drink it now or like to keep you wines for a while, you will find this just gorgeous.

This medium-bodied wine will pair with Sunday roast lamb or roast beef beautifully.
You'll just love it!

Saumur Affinité  2014

This gorgeous little appellation is one of those that the French try to keep for themselves.
The grape is 100% Cabernet Franc which gives a big, fruity flavour
This Saumur is lighter in body than it's big sister wine from the next door Appellation of Saumur Champigny which is much stronger in flavour.

They are both very similar in character, so it is really a question of personal taste; if you like the lighter version of this wine or the stronger bodied version of the Saumur Champigny.

It can be paired with loads of different dishes - A wonderful Greek meze springs to mind with lots of lamb dishes and especially barbecued lamb chops.
Try also with plain roast chicken with herbs.
The flavour of this medium-bodied Saumur is raspberries, blackberries and plums. So very easy to match

GAMAY de Touraine  2017
Every now and then you come across a really stunning wine so typical of itself!
I know it sounds strange but it really is that typical...
Gamay is a light red wine grape, about as light as Pinot Noir... so you see what I am getting at.
The Touraine gamay is not as well known as the Beaujolais gamay, same grape, very different flavours!!!
A Touraine gamay is far more flinty for starters!

The nose is crushed strawberries. The length of the wine is loooong... you can keep on tasting it until... the next gulp!

Because it is so light and easy it is a great Summertime quaff but also for those of you who do not like heavy wines.
  • Going into summer the barbecue season comes to mine,
  • Also, the Tapas season with lots of friends to share them
  • Also, vegetarians and vegans who don't like heavy wines with delicately flavoured veggie dishes
  • It can also be chilled slightly (probably the only varietal along with Pinot Noir which likes to be slightly chilled)
An incredibly good all-rounder!

Chinon - Esprit du Loup  2014
Remember those wines of yore, when the flavour filled the mouth, and the wine slipped down like velvet! Yes, I've decided to wax lyrical about this one as it really is quite outstanding!!!

As soon as you look at the bottle, you will see it's something different...
Something to contend with...Then the cork, yes, it is a real cork. (We don't get many of those any more.)
Then you pour the wine... black as ink!!!
The vines grow in 2 tiny plots of land on the south-western slope of the best area of Chinon.
Also, they are over 60 years old, so very Vieilles Vignes!
It shows in the wine
Then the nose... full, rich summer fruit... brambles, blackcurrants and blackberries! Yummmmm!

The richness of the wine and fullness in the feel on the mouth calls for something like Boeuf Bourguignonne or a big thick rump steak, or venison in a full rich sauce.
It calls for food... definitely a food wine...
Full, rich food... food... food...
I know you'll love it as soon as you try it!
Also, it'll bring back happy memories of your trip to the Loire, and if you haven't visited yet, then you really should do

Chinon - La Fosse aux Loups  2014
Chinon has been a long time coming to my website due to the fact that my memories of Chinon wine from 20 years ago did not match what I was tasting.
Then I tasted this Chinon...
Wow - Everything changed for me!
Jean-Louis raises his wines in the most traditional manner imaginable and it comes through in his wines. This particular one is the lighter version of his Esprit du Loup which you can see here.

Visually it's fun! the label on the bottle has an imprint of a wolf's paw in a wine glass to bring attention to the name of the plot of vines. The Wolves Gully... Nice name! Nice label!

Then, the colour of the wine is warm and rich.
The nose is full of summer fruit, raspberries, redcurrants, plums, etc.
It's an easy quaff and keeps its nose and flavour right to the end of the bottle.
It is delightful with most meat dishes, and tapas!

Some people might want to chill the wine very slightly. I wouldn't.
The age of the vines on average is 45 years and you don't want to upset them at that stage.
But try it if you'd like to...

This is a traditional Chinon with all the flavour you'd expect from that.

Like all our wines it is totally unoaked

Cabernet de Touraine  2008

This is our "cheerful" red. And it is great! Easy to drink and matches your pocket. What more could you want?

Super bouquet of raspberries and blackcurrants, this cabernet has loads of fruit supported by soft, well-structured tannins, this is a must-have with all lamb dishes. Also, while relatively young goes well with pizzas and pasta.  If you are in doubt as to which type of red wine to serve, this cabernet will probably be the ticket!

Côt (Malbec) de Touraine  2007
This was a year for easy sipping reds.
In character, it could almost be likened to Pinot Noir... it really is that light!

It is a wonderful late summer/autumn quaff, rusty autumn leaves outside under a bright autumn sun, fire burning inside to keep out the cold.
Alternatively, early Spring when you're just thinking you want something a little bit lighter than a heavy, wintery red.

That is this Côt! (or Malbec - it is the same grape variety)

So just to differentiate between the 2005 and the 2007, this one is so much lighter and so easier to match with lots of dishes.
The flavour of the grape is morello cherries. This wine is bone-dry.
Delightful with cold roast beef and salads in the summer.
Warming soups in winter and most red meat or farmhouse cheese, especially goats cheese.
You can consume it cool if you like but not cold.
It is definitely a food wine!

Mesland Unoaked Red  2005
The silky, satin tones of raspberries, blackberries and violets in this exquisite red wine bring out the best qualities of artisan winemaking.
Bags of fruit and body! Gilles excelled himself in making this wine.
The blend of these 3 gorgeous grape varieties fills the mouth, the gamay in the beginning, then the cabernet, and last of all the côt.

Try it with the Sunday roast or a mansize steak!

Consume at room temperature.

Cabernet "Vieilles Vignes"  2009

2009 was a really lovely year for reds. And this one is so smooth! It is just like velvet on the tongue. Full and fruity... Silky and as elegant as you can get. A dream in a bottle!

The vines are over 40 years old. That is why it is so soft and easy to quaff.

Côt (Malbec) de Touraine  2011
Jean-Marc Gallou has done it again - he has made the most wonderful Côt!
2011 was a piping hot year in the spring and the Côt has just loved it.

It is just coming of age and is just beginning to find the fruit at the back of the tongue.
Very soon it will be just lovely, maybe even for Christmas this year.

Even so, it is still lovely and needs very much to be matched with food.
You must think of a huge steak, or venison, or duck.
It also loves strong, smelly cheeses - adores goats cheese!
(Sometimes doctors tell patients with heart problems to have a small glass of a very tannic wine. This would be suitable)

It is definitely a food wine!

  • 4 bottles Touraine Gamay 2005
  • 4 bottles Touraine Cabernet 2005
  • 4 bottles Touraine Côt 2005

  • Touraine Gamay

The lightest in flavour of all the reds, the Gamay is full of summer strawberries and is slightly flinty, giving a lengthy flavour. Drink with fairly light meals, such as roast chicken, pork fillets and pasta dishes. (Alcohol 14%)

  • Touraine Cabernet

A selected blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a very popular wine redolent of blackberries and redcurrants. A must-have with a Sunday leg of lamb, as well as salad, cows cheese and ewes cheese. (Alcohol 12%)

  •  Touraine Côt

The strongest in flavour of all the wines, tasting of morello cherries and sometimes horse leather. Drink with game, red meat, and strong smelly cheeses. (Alcohol 12%)

Cuvée Tradition  2005

2005 was the year of the century (so far),  just in front of 2009 which is also quite outstanding. This particular wine was made in the modern way of making wine, which means it macerated in its skins for only a week. So the wine is fruitier than it's 2004 counterpart and easier to quaff. It is interesting to taste the Tradition 2004 and 2005 side by side. By doing so, you can easily understand the difference in wine-making the old-fashioned way (2004) and the modern way (2005). I would love to know which one you prefer...

In the meantime, the 2005 is the most accommodating. Open well before drinking. Loves Sunday roasts, red meat and strong cheeses. Mmm... Enjoy!

Cabernet de Touraine  2005

2005 is still THE year of the century.

Super bouquet of raspberries and blackcurrants, this Cabernet has loads of fruit supported by elegant, soft structured tannins, this is a must-have with all lamb dishes.

A very versatile wine which will go with loads of dishes especially the Sunday roast. If you are in doubt as to which type of red wine to serve, this Cabernet will probably be the ticket!

Awarded a Gold Star by Oz Clarke in 2008 at The Wine Show!

At The 3 Wine Men 2014 Oz Clarke tasted it again and was overawed by the structured tannins, and the total taste of TERROIR. The fruit of the vines is prevalent as is the picture of the landscape where the vines are grown. He said it will last at least a further 10 years. What a wonderful quaff!

Cuvée Tradition  2004

This exquisite blend of 3 red varietals, gamay, cabernet & côt, 2004 has become a really outstanding wine. Jean-Marc made this wine in the old fashioned way as opposed to the Tradition 2005 which he made in the more modern way. This means that he macerated the grapes for one month with their skins! The tannins are now elegantly structured and will get softer. There are bags of black summer fruit that come from behind and support the wine all around the palate. Blackcurrants and plums fill the mouth and demand a good roast beef Sunday lunch or Christmas dinner.

It will keep for at least 10 years. You can consume now if you prefer.

Open several hours in advance and serve at room temperature!

Cuvée Saint Marc  2010

A stunning blend of two of the strongest grape varieties. Côt (malbec in other areas) and Cabernet.

This has length and fruit and bags and bags of flavour, with lots of elegant tannins which are still quite young.

BUT... it is gorgeous!

You need to open it a good hour before consuming, or even decant it if you like.
It is full of late summer berries, blackberries and blackcurrants.

Touraine Sparkling - Brut

All crémants and méthode traditionnelles in France are made in the Champagne way.

This charming, everyday, easy white bubbly is just lovely at any occasion all year round. It is made mainly from  the arbois grape which gives it lots of structure and just a touch of chardonnay for fruit. It is brut, dry, but not at all sharp.

It is great for cocktails and all festive occasions, little shrimps, prawns and all finger food!

It has recently won 2 cups, a gold and a silver!

CHAMPAGNE!
I feel I have to add to my collection a Champagne...

I know what you're going to say - "Amanda, it's not from the Loire Valley!"

This is true, of course, Champagne can only be from Champagne in France... nowhere else!
But like many, I have my specialities and then, you know, I taste something just fantastic, so I feel I want to share it with you.

This Brut Champagne is raised by Eric Taillet whose family goes back many generations in Champagne.
Eric raises his vines in the sustainable agricultural practices manner, thereby taking great care of them.
It is white, made with 3 grape varieties, (listed below.)
It is creamy!!!
Can you imagine creamy Champagne?
It is just gorgeous - and I am quite smitten!

Like all my wines it is NOT AGED IN OAK BARRELS!

Vouvray Sparkling - Medium/Dry

Of all the crémants and sparkling wines in the Loire Valley, the small appellation of Vouvray probably make the very best.

This off-dry sparkling is full of fun, great at any time, any occasion, and oh-so easy to drink. As you sip it, it is dry at the beginning and then you can savour the flavours of quince and apricots on the back of the tongue. In a sparkling wine this is so totally new and wonderful.

If you like something smoother for cocktails try it as an aperitif accompanied by cashew nuts and spicy olives.

At the end of a meal it matches all sorts of easy desserts such as apple pie, apricot pie, vanilla mousse, etc.

All our wines are totally unoaked.

Sparkling Touraine Rosé
Made in the Champagne method from our own Touraine traditional rosé wine.

The Pineau d'Aunis grape, which you've probably never heard of, is only grown in our region of the Loire Valley and is probably the oldest known varietal in the region.

It is dry, soft, fruity, slightly peppery, easy to drink and well balanced.
It's like a glass of strawberries and cream except it is dry!
This is a real treat for all festive occasions.
We all absolutely adore this one!

Red Traditional Sparkling from Saumur

This astonishing medium-dry red Sparkling wine from the Saumur region is something that you don't find very often.
It is truly delightful to the taste buds as well as totally unexpected.

In essence, traditionally, it is for aperitifs, cocktails and receptions.

In fact, it is a pure delight throughout the whole meal.
Especially barbecue lunch with grills and salads.
Grilled pork chops, chicken wings and lamb chops too.
It is just lovely throughout.
It makes a change from a still red wine, and is as light as a feather!

It needs to be opened about 1/2 hour in advance.
You do not want to lose the bubbles so better to put a stopper on it for sparkling wines.
Fridge cold only (not ice cold)

It is medium-dry so can be paired with lots of different desserts including trifle AND cranachan! Not many sparklers can be paired with trifle. Also strawberry and raspberry tart and custard. Even ice-cream!!!
