About Us

When I first moved to the Loire Valley in 1995 I was amazed to discover the intensely different flavours of unoaked wine”.

This was a real eye-opener to me as for several years I had suffered from wines which were:

  • too blousy,
  • too heavy,
  • too overpowering,
  • too strong on alcohol, and worse…
  • too full of chemicals (which gave me a horrible headache the next morning)!

I didn’t know it at the time but this discovery was to change my life.

Back in 2006 there was a European law case going through the courts to try to legalise the purchase of wine in one country (say, France) for delivery to another European country (say, the UK) without having to pay destination duty and taxes (only the duties in the country of departure which are generally much lower in wine producing countries).

Before the final ruling was made, I had already worked out how I was going to set up a business taking this new decision into consideration so that people in the UK could discover these wonderful wines just as I had.

As it happened, the European court ruled against it – but then I thought, HEY! Why not set it up anyway – just using a base in London rather than a base in France.

As my wines have grown in popularity and the business generated income, Amanda’s Wines has grown from a hobby (some would say an obsession), to a part time job, through to a fully fledged, time-consuming, business.

Domaine de la Guilloterie Sparking Red Fizz – Demi-sec red fizz: Fruity, vibrant, refreshing and gorgeous.  Such a treat with turkey and cranberry sauce.

Why Amanda’s Wines?
This site is dedicated to helping wine lovers, who are bored with uninteresting wines, discover our delicious unoaked wines without making a huge hole in their pocket!

We carefully select our wines from growers whose families have worked the land for centuries. Their vineyards are situated in the heart of the Loire Valley, amongst the most fabulous châteaux, forests, fauna and flora; and their passion for wine shines through in the exquisite selections made available to you through this website.

I set up the business with my sister, Susanne, in September 2007. Since then many, many people have signed up for our wines and bought them over and over again. (See Testimonials)

As I wanted keep a record of the knowledge I was acquiring, I’ve added many articles, tips, tutorials to the archives on my Blog.

If you’re tired of big, rich, vanilla-ey, oaky wines then Amanda is the girl for you because she hates oak and none of her wines ever, ever, ever are aged in barrel.  And the result is they are some of the freshest purest wines in the show.
The Touraine Mesland Tradition Red 2005 is a marvellous blend of youth and maturity, raspberry fruit washed over pebbles with rock dust.  Any barrel aging would have spoilt it.’
